This paper contributes to the literature on intertemporal choice in diferent ways, by enhancing both the theoretical and empirical understanding of the date–delay efect. First, we shed light on the date–delay efect, an anomaly which has been previously underexplored, by proposing a novel mathematical defnition which incorporates the property of non-separability between amount and time. This defnition, supported by our empirical analysis, opens new avenues for developing mathematical models which account for this anomaly and provide a more accurate representation of intertemporal decisions. Second, we demonstrate for the frst time that individuals make decisions by considering time and amount jointly rather than separately in the date scenario.
